Remembering Peter Sortino, a Champion for Our Region and Our Parks
All of us at Forest Park Forever join the community in mourning the loss and honoring the life of Peter Sortino, a longtime parks advocate and Forest Park Forever Board member.
It is impossible to sum up Peter’s immense and positive impact on the entire St. Louis region, including Forest Park and our friends and colleagues at Great Rivers Greenway. His list of honors is deservedly long and reflects the depth and breadth of his contributions to our quality of life in St. Louis: the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Citizen of the Year Award; the Kathryn Nelson Keeper of Forest Park Award (pictured above); the Mayor’s Award; the Renaissance Award; the list goes on.
Peter was one of Forest Park Forever’s greatest and most strategic advocates, playing an essential role in securing passage of legislation that is at the heart of our conservancy's current partnership with the City of St. Louis, which has become a national model. Peter’s impact on Forest Park — and our region as a whole — will endure for many, many years.
We encourage you to read more about Peter's life in these remembrances from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and St. Louis Public Radio.
