"Coloring STL" Exhibit Closing Celebration

  • Dates: Aug. 31-Sept. 2, 2024

  • Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Come to the Missouri History Museum throughout Labor Day weekend to help us send our most vibrant exhibit off with a burst of color. We’ve set a goal to color every inch of the walls of Coloring STL before it closes—and with more than 176,400 square inches to fill, we need your help! Stop by any time throughout Labor Day weekend to join the fun. Plus, catch artist demonstrations and see a special pop-up exhibit of local landmarks and street scenes by St. Louis artist Dexter Silvers!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND SCHEDULE

“REFLECTIONS” | SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY | 10AM–5PM | AT&T ROOM

Known for his unique depictions of photo-realism, St. Louis artist Dexter Silvers has dedicated his life to his artwork. He has shown his work in galleries across the US and has been featured on FOX 2, KSDK, and the Nine Network as well as numerous print publications. Silvers has created two separate but distinctive collections entitled “Reflections” and “Different Frames of Mind.” The “Reflections” collection is primarily made of various well-known St. Louis landscapes, landmarks, and street scenes painted on location, making it a perfect complement to the Coloring STL gallery.

“COLOR EVERY INCH” | SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY | 10AM–5PM | COLORING STL GALLERY

We’re taking this last opportunity to color every inch of the walls of the Coloring STL exhibit before it closes—and with over 176,400 square inches to fill, we need your help!

SATURDAY ONLY

ARTIST KICK OFF | SATURDAY, AUGUST 31 | 10AM–2PM | COLORING STL GALLERY

Accomplished local artists will help us kick off “Color Every Inch.” Show up early to color alongside your favorite artist and exchange some tips and pointers with them about art, architecture, and historical landmarks of St. Louis.

CLOSING KEYNOTE | SATURDAY, AUGUST 31 | 2PM | LEE AUDITORIUM

Join us in the Lee Auditorium for the Coloring STL Closing Keynote. St. Louis has fascinating structures of every shape, size, style, and era, and in Coloring STL, thousands of visitors have had the chance to color more than 50 of them in the wildest ways their minds could dream up.

In this talk, Public Historian Andrew Wanko will take you on journey through some favorite stories he uncovered while putting the exhibit together—the city’s soaring wonders and architectural blunders, what could have stood on the St. Louis riverfront instead of the Gateway Arch, and how St. Louisans built their city from the natural resources right beneath their own feet.

SUNDAY ONLY

ARTIST RECEPTION WITH DEXTER SILVERS | SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 | 2–4PM | AT&T ROOM

Come meet the artist in person, hear about his creative process, and watch him work! During this presentation and workshop, St. Louis artist Dexter Silvers will also be unveiling four new pieces of artwork to the public for the first time. Join us in this celebration of artistic creativity, accompanied by drinks and snacks.

MONDAY ONLY

CLOSING OF COLORING STL | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 | 5PM | COLORING STL GALLERY
