A Missouri History Museum “Thursdays at the Museum” event:
On January 11, 1865, the delegates of the Missouri state convention, led by Radical Republican Charles Drake, passed the immediate emancipation of all enslaved persons. Join Etta Daniels and Shelley Morris from Greenwood Cemetery for a look at St. Louis’s African American community in 1865. From churches to civic and social organizations, this presentation will explore how those institutions supported the African American community both before and after emancipation, as well as how emancipation affected individual lives.
