1877: A PLAY PRESENTED BY BREAD AND ROSES
The St. Louis general strike of 1877 is an unparalleled example of people power and solidarity. Over a few hot July days, 20,000 workers organized across trades, cultural divides, and language barriers to demand better working conditions. Written by Colin McLaughlin and produced by Bread and Roses Missouri, 1877 tells the story of individual workers grappling with difficult choices and citizens realizing their collective potential to create change. This new play brings a little-known piece of St. Louis history to the stage, detailing events that still reverberate nearly 150 years later.
