This year marks the 125th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldier Bicycle Corps’ epic 1,900-mile bicycle ride from Fort Missoula, Montana, to St. Louis. Called “The Great Experiment,” the ride sought to determine the effectiveness of moving troops by bike. Featuring mostly Black enlisted soldiers (commonly referred to as Buffalo Soldiers) who battled extreme weather conditions and food and water shortages, the ride crisscrossed five states.
Join the Missouri History Museum in collaboration with the Missouri State Parks to celebrate these remarkable achievements with a day of performances, food trucks, and community resources.
