How To Keep a Nature Journal
This week I have been outside enjoying the weather and observing the nature around me. One option to document your observations like a scientist and artist is to keep a nature journal. All you need is a notebook, writing utensils and nature to observe. There are so many ways to fill your journal. Children of all ages (including adults!) can do it #AtHomeWithForestPark or in the Park. Let’s look at some ways to journal:
Make leaf or tree rubbings
Pen a poem or another piece of writing
Track the weather with charts
Tape natural materials and caption
Draw found animal tracks (what do they belong to?)
Make nature stamps (collect objects and paint them and press into your journal)
Smear some juice from a berry or fruit
Some more nature journaling tips: For added fun, use a variety of materials (watercolor, pen, colored pencil) to capture your observations. Select a spot to observe in all four seasons and notice how it changes. Field guides and nature books are helpful tools to use while drawing. Enjoy!
