Six Beautiful, Less Visited Spots in Forest Park

If you are thinking about visiting Forest Park — responsibly, of course — we encourage you to consider spending time in areas where you are more able to spread out and see fewer fellow visitors. One thing to know is that across the board, the east side of the Park is much less visited than the heart of the Park and the west side, near the Emerson Grand Basin and Art Hill.

For those looking to encounter next to nobody on a future visit, check out these six less visited areas while we are practicing social distancing. Click on the image to take you to the location to find it.

Hidden Creek Savannah

Located just down the hill from Emerson Central Field is 3-acre Hidden Creek Savanna, a perfect place for complete solace in Forest Park.

Successional Forest

The 20-acre Successional Forest is located just to the west side of the Jewel Box. The trout lilies are in abundance there this time of the year.

Round Lake Vista

Next to Round Lake, visitors will find a quaint little area on the other side of the waterway called Round Lake Vista. The wildflowers there right now are in full bloom. Head there for some much needed peace.

Deer Lake Savanna & Riffles

The Deer Lake area is a 24-acre complex of restored natural communities. The area consists of prairie, savanna, woodland and wetland restorations and is one of the most biologically diverse habitats in Forest Park. We dare you to find all the ways you can get lost in this area!

Murphy Lake

It is hard to believe this lake is right next to Lindell Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway. There are some natural paths that surround the lake and a bench that is rarely inhabited. Enjoy!

Kennedy Forest

Kennedy Forest, which is usually not as busy as other areas of the Park, is even way less busy because of Government Drive being closed to vehicular traffic right now. Get lost, alone, in over 60 acres of forest.
