Handball Players Are Back on Forest Park's Courts

Back in January, renovations began on the Park's handball courts. At the end of April, the courts reopened to welcome back players to one of the Park's most popular amenities.

Funded by private donations to Forest Park Forever, repairs to the handball courts included:

  • Replacing all sheeting with smooth double primed/final painted panels
  • Adding roughly 3’ of asphalt to the east side
  • Filling and sealing the entire asphalt perimeter
  • Filling, resurfacing and re-striping all playing areas
  • Installing sturdier fencing

Forest Park Forever was excited to tackle this maintenance project, improving a recreational asset that serves many people throughout the year, and which desperately needed a little TLC. The organization's expanded endowment made the work possible, and will finance other necessary maintenance projects in the future as well.

Representatives from Forest Park Forever and the City of St. Louis met to tour the newly refurbished courts after the work was completed. Forest Park Forever President and Executive Director Lesley S. Hoffarth commented on the importance of maintaining assets like the handball courts: "Throughout every season you will see people using these handball courts, which provide a welcoming space to compete and have fun and a place to build community for so many St. Louisans. We are excited that these improvements have been completed and grateful to those who helped make them possible."
